Headlight low beam

So the bulb is okay, main beam works, start switch shuts off headlight when pressed. Is there a relay in this circuit and if so where is it located? Any help is welcome because at the moment I am stumped.

Normal that I am stumped or normal that the low beam does not work?

It is normal that the scoot cuts power to the light while trying to give the starter all the power it can to start up the bike.

Mine works by cutting off the power to the light when the start is engaged.  Like most motorcycles that I have had.

I never tried to fix that!

I may not have explained the problem correctly. The low beam never works at all. I know that the light shuts off while starting via an interlock on the start button and this works correctly in the high beam position. With the switch in the low beam position the bike starts normally and everything works except the low beam. Does anyone have a schematic of the head light circuit?

Does the low beam ever come on with just the switch on? They do burn out. Replace the bulb if it does not come on.

Have you checked to see if you have got power to the low beam socket ?

Yes Roger, I have and there is no power, even plugged in a new bulb to double check. I am wondering if there is a relay involved somewhere, the parts list says there are 7 relays on the bike but I don't know where they are located.

Assuming that you've checked the fuses, unfortunately that headlight Low Beam Relay is located behind the Front Cover, on the left side. You'll have to pull the front body to find the relay. It is one of two relays located there, the other being the Fan Motor Relay. The "good news" is that all the relays on the S/W are the same so you can substitute that Fan Relay to test the Low Beam Relay.

And yes too, given the circumstances, it is normal that you are stumped.

Could it be the contacts on the switch. I think others have had problems with the switch on the handlebar. WD-40 and fiddling with it beats taking off panels. Oh, I forgot to wish you luck. Good Luck!!!

That is a good thought. I would use electronic cleaner / lubricant instead of WD-40. Radio Shack sells a can of it for $11.00 and it has lasted me 4 or 5 years. I use it on all of my handlebar switches on all of my motorcycles once a year.

Took the switch of and checked it. Contacts are clean and the light still does not work when I jumper the switch contacts. I hate to have to take off all the Tupperware!
