My Rear Shocks squeak when I bounce on the bike. javascript:emoticonp('bounce') Don't ask why I am bouncing on the bike ... or use your imagination... javascript:emoticonp('Idea')

Anyway, I am not aware of the shocks not working right and don't see fluid leaking, just hear the squeak. Can I put some oil on upper rod to lube them? Would that hurt the seals? Other suggestions?

BTW, my 1998 Grand Marquis front shocks also squeak when I bounce on the hood. (Again, don't ask why but imagine ....). The Mr. Tire shop said $$$ to replace.... but when I asked if they actually needed to be replaced they said "No, they work fine but will fail eventually"... Well of course they will with enough miles and squeaks... So I driving riding two vehicles with squeaky shocks I don't want to damage but really want to oil or grease. javascript:emoticonp('Rolling Eyes')

Adam,

IMHO They all squeak. More than likely the noise is coming from the spring moving slightly where it seats on both the upper (shock cap) & lower shock body / spring adjuster.

You might try squirting some 'Blaster' Dry Lube at those locations. Though you'll be hard-pressed to access the upper shock cap.

BTW you'll need that Blaster Dry Lube eventually when you decide to upgrade to Dr Pulley variator Sliders. Home Depot has it for ~$5.

Squeaking shocks are proof that you are "bouncing" correctly, I would imagine... Basketball cheers

BTW the squeak on your cage is most likely ball joints that need grease. shoot so WD_40 on them see if they stop.

Or proof that the rider's Silver Wing monthly payments are either current or completely paid off.

Try lubing the bushings on the top , WAAAY up under the tupperware. and the ones inside the clevis at the bottom.

Mine squeek every couple of yrs/ ride in a lot of rain/

After you clean/lube the upper rod, I use the reflective Hippo fork protectors ( http://www.hippohands.com/Products%20Description.htm ) or something equivalent around my shocks greatly reducing the dirt/grit on the rod. I can easily separate the velcro then remove and clean the dirt off the protector.

The WD 40 is the fix-----sometime a little compressed air and/or brush treatment- Noise spring rubbing on plastic.

John Grinsel
WD 40 will do a pretty good job of dissolving the plastic, I'd use silicone spray instead. IMO

This is based on personal experience with sliding screen rollers. I have no idea what kind of plastic they were.

Two materials to avoid in case of spray/lub. , based on petrol...
Like wd40 and many others.

Polystyrene ;
The very light insulation material.
Like for food containers

Polycarbonate ;
Transparent hard plastic like for greenhouses.
Also windshields for mc ...

The swing arm bushings on my rebuilt Reflex sounded like a bed in a whorehouse.bounce LPS & WD-40 would last about as long as it would take her to smoke a cigarette.Wink PB Blaster Dry Lube did the trick to quell the squeak. (And the people in the apartment below stopped hammering on the ceiling) cheers

I tried the WD-40 route and it helped, but some dripped over time and left dark streaks on the lower part of the rear shocks. Now the squeak is back, both on the bike and even louder on the car.

Time to search for a vendor of PB Blaster Dry Lube in my area. Or good old fashioned gear oil or grease?
