How many times have you heard the excuse 'I didn't see him'. Well sometimes this isn't caused by someone being inattentive but by a natural blind spot. See this link http://www.scholarpedia.org/article/Blind_Spot

One way to avoid the scenario of not seeing something is to move your head slightly.

Cheers,

Cheers,

In the UK we use a term - SMIDSY - Sorry Mate I Didn't See You!

The turning your head thing isn't new. As an ex aviator we used the technique a lot to locate the prey - sorry target, especially at night. It is due to the physiological make up of the eye, (cones and rods).

You can detect movement better too if you keep your head still, (difficult I know on a moving bike), but at a junction, don't scan for objects, keep your head still and the eye will detect movement swifter.
