Grips,remove throttle sleeve

What do have to do to change grips with integral throttle sleeve.

Hi Oneeye, The grip on the throttle side should just be pushed on over the throttle tube so should be easy enough to get off. It may well be held on with glue though so you'll have to poke around to free it off.
Are you fitting heated grips or just fitting some better grips. I find the standard Honda grips too small a diameter - but then I have quite big hands.

Thx,cookie. I want to replace the entire tube and grip,taking the cables loose would be involved I think.

Hello Oneeye. Not sure why you want to change the throttle tube.You might be asking for a major piece of work if in fact
it is a separate replaceable item. I have replaced several grips with
larger softer ones. Maybe I have been lucky but I use a small nozzle and apply air pressure between the grip and the shaft. They usually
come off in one or two treys. Yes you have to remove the end caps
first. I start the larger diameter grips on the shaft and then use air pressure to expand them and they usually go on in one or two tries.
The larger and softer grips help greatly especially on long rides.

I cut the stock ones with a razor knife and pulled them off and used dish soap to lubricate the new grips and slid them on. 10 minute job.

Just slide a very long small bladed screwdriver between the grip and tube, then spray a little oil into the gap you can then work the screwdriver round the grip.
When you replace the grip make sure the oil is cleaned off and glue the new on with either grip cement or hair spray!

Yep, as above. WD40 using the squirty tube gets the oil in there to loosen the exizting glue, then a long thing screwdriver or similar, repeat as necessary. Easy job.

I use wallpaper paste to stick them back on. It slips and slides when easing the new grips on and dries out to hold them in place. Only a little is needed.

I also use compressed air to get grips off. Normally they pop right off without damaging the grip or the sleeve. You can put them back on with a bit of air pressure too, just push them back on while hitting them with air. One popular stick'em to put grips on securely while still allowing them to be easily removed is hair spray. It works fine, holds them snugly but still easy to remove just shoot a bit down the grip and slip it on.

Well... You could put on some eye liner and wear a trench coat when you take that can of hairspray to the counter. Who'd think any the less of a guy doing that?

I don't remember but be careful cutting off the throttle grip. One scooter I took the grip off of had a plastic throttle sleeve. I don't remember what type scooter it was though. It looked like it wouldn't be too hard to cut that sleeve lengthwise while cutting off the grip. It might have been a Chinese scooter but I don't remember for sure.

I didn't cut all the way through the grip. I got one end of the grip started after cutting through and a good swift pull and the rest of the grip just pulled apart.

Dish soap dries like glue. We used to put foam grips on bicycles with it and they never came loose even soaking wet. For an experiment, pour a little on the counter and let it dry. Now try to scrap it off. Pour some water on it and it won't absorb the water either. I like the idea of hairspray. I might use that on the ends of the grip even after install.

I have visited your country - but only briefly - a port stop in Portsmouth, I think. It was a long time ago. Wherever your submarine base is. Stayed for a few days - enjoyed it immensely. Stopped in Bremerhaven too - less impressive.
