Just in case anyone here is planning to ride in France soon or in future, be aware that new regulations have come into force this month:

Not likely I will be riding in France this year, but coincidentally, I do carry a yellow reflective vest in my Swing. It folds up to nothing and I figure it would be an asset in low light conditions. I also have reflective red tape on the back of my helmet for the same reason. Better safe than sorry, I guess!

First rode in France 1958-59, enjoyed it, last 2009 or so, enjoyed it.

These rules are nothing new for US military members, been around there for 40 years.....with one addition footwear//gloves required. Do anything to prevent accidents? No stats to prove.

It's no big deal, I'd rather wear a motorcycle specific hi-vis/reflective vest than a textile bike jacket with neon yellow panels that fade with prolonged wear. For years now I've been wearing a hi-vis yellow Icon Mil- Spec vest over my favourite Hein Gericke mesh summer suit and continue to do so.

I bought a brand new hi-vis neon red Olympia Moto Sports Nova 2 off eBay UK last year which I was very pleased and surprised to find on this side of the Pond as Olympia discontinued it a while ago for the Blaze vest in orange and yellow versions. It fits great over my black Klim Overland suit, looks the dogs bollocks, and has useful pockets.

The cheapo flimsy Velcro fastened hi-vis vests are fine for cycling in or keeping in the car for emergencies or breakdowns at home on in Europe, or if you're collecting supermarket trolleys.
