Parking Brake light Empty
PostSubject: Parking Brake light   Parking Brake light I_icon_minitimeSat May 24, 2014 1:18 pm

My parking brake light refuses to come on. I recently fitted new pads in the parking brake. A couple of weeks ago i got the light, sometimes coming on, other times not. I don't want to take all the panels off to get at the connections at the top of the lever, anyone any suggestions how to access it some other way? Sad

Have you adjusted the parking brake slack as per 3-19 of the service manual? If that does nothing, unless you can access the parking brake switch by removing the right dash storage bin, you will likely have to remove the front cover, meter panel, and all the rest of the front tupperware.

Thats what i dont want to have to do. I have adjusted according to the manual. It's more annoying than anything, i just like things to work as they should. I tried lifting the right glove box(or storage bin) but i think something will snap if i put too much force on it. I guess i can live with it , i just thought someone might have a trick or two to get at the connection, thanks anyway Bigbird. Smile

Had the same problem a while ago. I took out the right side glove box and gave the contacts a dose of WD40, then worked the parking brake lever on and off a few times to clean the contacts. Works OK now, and the light comes on each time.
If you don't feel confident about taking the glove box out, you could try spraying through the slot where the p/brake lever is (through the rubber sleeve thingy). IIRC, you need to direct the spray upwards to get at the switch contacts doing it that way.

This is Dennis B's explanation of how to get the glove box out - it is very easy, and Dennis really knows his stuff! "Just remove the screw and press the sides in and walk it on out. That's all there is to it."

Refit is obviously the reverse - put in place, press down, replace screw - simples!

Graham.

Squeeze the sides together as everyone else suggest and lift/rock while squeezing. Don't fear, you cant't wreck it.

Why does that remind me of when a redneck says "hey watch this."  Razz

Thankyou everyone. If it gets really annoying I will follow the advice given. Smile I did actually see the two wires after removing the steering cowell, and squirted WD40 on them. No change.

Good advice given above to fix your problem. I concur except I use contact switch electrical cleaner available at most auto parts shops. Cleans better than WD-40 and lubes also.

Having a Goldwing with all those switches, I go through gallons of it. Just kidding but there are MANY switches that stick on a GW.

The right side glove box comes out as easily as suggested. If you find you are forcing it then you are not doing it correctly ... take it easy and it will come. Check the anti-freeze and fluid level while you have it out too as the fill point to the reservoir is accessed here as well.

After getting the rear part up off of the clips (where the screw is), lower the cover and slide the box backward and it should slip right out. You need to do this when adding/flushing anti-freeze. This is something every Swing owner needs to learn. Maybe a friendly Honda service person can show you. It takes less than 30 seconds. Good luck.
