PostSubject: Centre Stand Springs   Centre Stand Springs I_icon_minitimeSun Apr 13, 2014 6:38 am

Hi there Boys and Girls

Been having a play with my Swing now the weather is better and have a few small jobs to do. The main one is the centre stand has a lot of surface corrosion, so took it off to clean and paint, the retraction springs were an ar*e to remove and I'm not looking forward to the pain I can already feel in my fingers when I come to refit!!

Anyone done this and offer any advice?

Many thanks

Mark

It's kind of late in the game to give this info, but the traditional method of removing those springs is to wedge pennys (or washers) into the gaps in the spring when it is extended. That way the spring will not fully collapse when you return the center stand to its rest position. The spring is much easier to remove and replace that way.

Maybe this info will suggest something for you to do while you have those springs out. Maybe clamp one end in a vise and use a spring hook to stretch the spring while a friend inserts pennys into the gaps. HTH

I love the idea of putting pennies in between the coils of the spring. Every time I come on here I pick up great ideas. Thanks Tim.

I was thinking my centre stand needs cleaning and repainting. That tip about the pennies is brilliant. I think I'll use thick washers though. Smile
