John,

AS Mudnman said, place the rollers evenly in the variator. In other words, place a 21g than a 28gr and then a 21 gr and so forth. This way the variator will be balanced. I tried the 21 gr Dr Pulley sliders and it was a bit too high of rpms for me on the SWing. I should have just bought the 24 gr. But since you have both sets of weighted rollers I would combine them. My rpm's just seemed to high, at least for me. But I have to say, with the 21gr sliders the SWing was very, very quick.

Variator nut = 104N-m. Clutch=54N-m.Ensure you lubricate the variator nut thread and mating surfaces with engine oil to achieve the correct torque.

So, forgive my newbie ignorance but what is the standard weight of the variator rollers? I'm not seeking rapid acceleration, more of a long-legged touring feel so what weight would be suitable?

The standard weight of each roller is 28grams. So the 21 grams will give you lots of acceleration.

Hi "Kerdmoto",
First of all, welcome to this site.  It's certainly the right place to be for everything 'Silver Wing'.  Secondly, I'm not the expert here but believe I've learned from from the other knowledgeable folks that the 28gr units are "standard".  So that 'long legged' feel you're looking for will probably come easily from the 'sliders'.  Smoothness is suppose to be their strong suit from what I've read.  Personally, I'm considering getting the 24's; a good compromise if all is true.  Good Luck. (I see JEFFR's already informed you of the same info)

At speed, any weight works like any other weight. It only affects acceleration. At highway cruise speeds, the variator is at it's maximum opening (with the exception of blipping the throttle, but most of that is due to the big spring on the clutch pulleys and the helix for those pullies, not weight of the rollers/sliders - at least at speed).

Regarding long-legged touring...if you are trying to lower RPMs at cruise, weight won't matter. Sliders are supposed to have a slightly lower high speed RPM due to shape, but it's slight and you're not going to cruise along the highway at 1500 RPM or something no matter what you are doing. It's supposed to have high RPM at cruise and can run forever that way.

Gentlemen,

Many thanks for the above - I've got a lot to learn about CVTs and scoots in general.

Had a Vespa back in the early 60's and a Lambretta in mid-70's but that is the limit of my scooter experience and neither has much to do with modern kit (although both would be  worth a small fortune now).
