| Of course, I paid 6500 for it, want to order the hard luggage to, but its so expensive. But ultimately any long trips will still be made on the Swing anyway. |

| I have a couple of friends who own mana's, they are great bikes. The engine is a peach, the only problem happened with one owner, who ran his mana through a very wet winter, didnt clean or do any maintainance on the bike, and had a couple of electrical connections corrode which gave him an indicated ECU fault, and a costly repair. Its agreed that if you keep the electrics clean and waterproof ( with acf-50 or wd-40 or similar), these problems shouldn't occur. I suppose its the old case of 'look after your machine and it will look after you'. |

Anyone who buys a Mana and runs it on our wet and salty winter roads without fitting a Fenda Extenda and mudflap to that ridiculously short front mudguard is just asking for trouble. |

Interesting because I am sure I'll get caught in the rain some. I'll have to look up some fender extenders for it. I want to get the hard luggage for it, but so much money. |

You're 85 years old and about to drive a brand new BMW 650 scooter? That's scary! |

| Our BMW dealer here in Lakeville, MN received two 650 GT's last Friday - red one was pre-ordered and was being prepared for delivery and the black one was on the showfloor - I'm 6 ft. and it was comfortable to sit on and had more leg room than the Silverwing - was equipped with heated grips/seat and priced at just over $11k - BMW top and side cases are dealer installed and of course additional. Our dealer indicated they will be receiving some demo units with miles on them and they will be available for test rides - that is if it doesn't start snowing first!! By the way, I frequently ride with a friend that is 84 plus and he isn't ready to stop anytime soon - in fact he just ordered an ultra-light airplane kit that he will assemble this winter and fly in the Spring [he has owned/flown ultra-lights in the past]. So if you want it just go for it. |

| You old farts have no business riding any motorcycles or scooters at 85+ years old. That also goes for 4 wheeled powered vehicles. Just look at the collision statistics. I don't care what physical shape you're in. Your peripheral vision, depth perception, situational analysis, and brain processing speed (reflexes) all take a huge dip after age 80.
However, denial is also a typical sign of old age. |

| Ugh..... This Mana is turning out to be a very expensive nightmare. CVT belt replacement due due at 12,000 miles so I've only been using it on weekends and such. Well guess what - Saturday at 8000 miles the belt warning light came on and now it requires replacement. I called the only Aprilia dealer within 200 miles and its going to cost 900 dollars to replace I have done alot of research and realized I can't change this one myself because the computer has to be reprogrammed and you need alot of VERY expensive tools to do it. A 200 dollar belt that lasted 8000 miles gives me 0 confidence for the future of reliability and cost of operation on this bike. I will give Aprilia a thumbs up for keeping the consumer from doing anything to this bike on there own. However later this summer when I have 900 dollars to waste on this I will sell immediately since I can't afford anything that has this type of maintenance expense long term. I love this bike to, but oh well. |

| At those prices, I will stick with the old school Swing . Doing my own wrenching Is what I like to do on a rainy day. I don't only save money , It is something I like to do and clean and shine after riding through buggy land. |

| Terribly sorry to hear about the expense on the Aprillia. My cousin has his eye on one, and I have also been looking at the Manta. I understand that computer dependent vehicles are a fact of life, but it's sad that they can suck the fun out of the sport. |

| Belt light probably does not indicate real wear on belt. Stick with makers recommendation on miles-----lokkin owners manual or shop manual----there probably is easy way to turn light off.
Rubber band drive scooters-----I now have near 300,000 miles on them. Change belts at book recommended miles with OEM parts. I have only suffered one underway belt breaking---that was Helix and their belt can be changed roadside. Ride a lot rubber band drive systems are expensive! |

| Patrick,
Change the belt yourself and ignore the light. If you change belt every 10K miles I would have thought it should be okay.

| Thanks for the link.It looks like a very well built, and a little more complicated servicing but doable .The shorten belt looks very robust and I don't think that that there would be any belt slap like the Swing ,IMOP ,that belt would be able to give more than the recommended service life .For myself , my step true Swing is the one for me .Enjoy your Mana and happy trails. |

| Thats a great link, thanks for sharing. The problem is whether the belts worn or not if it thinks it is then your limited to rain mode with a top speed of 48mph period. You can't get around it and the only dealer near me won't reset the light for me unless I pay them to do the job. Aprilia sure did a great job at making this thing non service by the home mechanic. So now I can ride it to the grocery store at 48mph otherwise its not good for much at the moment. I wish I could just ignore that light. I left the battery disconnected for 3 days, hooked up last night and bam there it was, "Belt replacement required" before I even started the engine. Dumbarse thing.... |

| Man they sure no how to piss there customers off. I own a Piaggio 250 MP3 once, and after reading of all the problem they had with front bearing and alignments, and short belt life, motor life I sold it and got my Swing. The best thing I ever did .Jack up the paint and replace the rest with a new Swing. :lol!: The rest makes a good paper wait . |

Maybe instead of shooting off one's mouth it would be better to know the man you insult. I ride with a WWII vet who was in on the Iwo Jima and Okinawa landings. He is 87 and can throw a 900lb. 1800 Goldwing around the twisties better than most of the riders here including myself. He also still holds an active commercial and instrument pilot's license. Can you do that? |

The belt is under the CVT cover on the opposite side from the chain, final drive is chain but primary is belt. Look at the link shared a few posts above and you can see ti with a belt removed. |

Cheers, Oh yes my Automoto truly fills a niche that no other bike can for sure. It even got me on the 5 o'clock news here in Atlanta. They followed me from the chickfila back to my office and then interviewed me about it. Very neat experience for sure. I was babbling because I was nervous to LOL..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ajQt_boyfU&feature=youtube_gdata_player Now as to the aprilia though they just reset the warning and I am waiting to see if it returns, hopefully it won't. |
