New brake pads

I had my dealership service department put new brake pads on. It cost $307 is that about standard?

You were taken----about $80 in parts. Two hours labor? Bike old? Salt damaged, brake pistons frozen? Was brake fluid changed?

How many miles on bike? Brake pads should last 30-40,000 miles-----with linked brakes pretty hard to ride around with just rear on.

For older, not well taken care of high mileage bike,possible to get that much diddle time on job. But????/

Just pads. 20,000 miles on a 2010 Silverwing.

If you cannot do future work yourself---find another dealer----who said it needed pads?

Keith that was pretty steep. Like John points out parts are about $80. Subtracting that leaves $227, if they charge $70 per shop hour that is almost 3.35 hours to complete the work. If fluid was drained/replaced and calipers serviced you are approaching a fair price but still padded with excessive profit.

I know bending is not something you can do for very long, so dealer service is the way to go. I would get a better accounting from them why it took so long? They didn't even need to take any tupperware off! I can do my pads/fluid in about 45 minutes (per axle) taking my time.

I just recently DIY replaced mine for SGD36 for both pads. Do you still include the squeak plates and the kevlar inserts for the new pads cos it seems like the Vesrah pads are quite thick...

Honda has actually made this one of the easiest self help jobs on the planet. I am stunned a dealer could charge so much. Was there a problem, were they stuck, did the callipers require freeing?

I was not going to weigh in as too little information has been provided to make any kind of informed assessment. But heck, that hasn't stopped me in the past.

It's only too much if you think it is.

One set of brake pads (front only)? Two sets (front and rear)? Three (front, rear, and parking)? Fluid drained and system(s) bled? You kind of need to tell us a bit more to get a bit better input from those who will respond.

At 20,000 miles unless you ride the brakes or ride with the parking brake on, none of your brake pads should have been anywhere near close to needing replacement.

I know you don't do your own maintenance (I don't do all maintenance on our bikes either), but you should at least ask for an itemized bill of work done.
