The tools most people need to adjust rear shocks are extremely expensive, but usually last a lifetime. They are called "hands". Seriously, you can probably adjust the shocks by hand. Put the bike on centerstand and you can turn them to the setting you want. Just make sure they are the same for both sides

A spanner, or spanner wrench, should be available at just about any dealership. It will likely cost more there than elsewhere, and you can find them through on-line retailers such as Amazon.com.

Jeff,

I have a 2007 and just use my hand when I adjust mine. Put your bike on the center stand and maybe wear a glove. I think I have read that the older SWings may need a spanner but just try your hand first. I just keep mine on 5 all the time and it seems to work good for me.

And also WD40 spray helps a lot.

No need to bey a wrench, i think.

Hand, leather gloves, WD-40. But doesn't the standard tool kit have a wrench just for the job?

I recommend gloves and being careful, as there is a possible pinch factor.

I use a rigid small pipe strap to remove my oil filter it might work for that or wrap a strap around it then with a screw driver turn to the position that you need. It works for me.

My 2003 includes a spanner wrench in the tool kit (it's kind of a c-shaped bar of metal ) and that is the specific tool you need for this job. I weigh about 245 with all of my riding gear and I like the highest setting for a sporty ride(I guess it's 5). Basically it's the top setting before the spring resets to the softest setting (1).

Sorry if I appear to step on your toes here Jesse, not intended. But I read your comment as if the setting run 1 to 5 then back to 1 again in a continuous loop.

Caution fellow riders this is not the case. If you rotate the stainless steel base beyond setting 5 it will 'step' off the runner so to speak and you will have a more difficult job getting it back to as it was.

It is simple enough to reset if you do over step the hole, (setting 5). Centre stand and two hands now or the tool of course, to re-sit the adjuster correctly.

Apologies again Jesse I didn't want anyone to do as I did and have the thing unseat itself and possible injure their hands doing so.

Jesse, you actually have a tool kit? Honda seems to think a screwdriver works for everything now.

Vodka, OJ, and milk of magnesia -- a Phillips screwdriver.

Ditto the foam and screwdriver! That is all the 2012 comes with also. Seems weird for a MSRP of $9270.? My wife just bought a Honda Metropolitan to putt around on it it came with NO tools...

Thanks for the advice above on shock adjustment, will try it later today :-)

Got my SW 600 2011 without tool kit. Just adjusted "use my hand".
Thank you, Jeff, for the advice.

Boris,

Your welcome. I didn't get a tool either and I remembers that I was able to do this with my Reflex and just gave it a try and it worked.

I just changed my tyres using the extensive Honda tool kit, I had to utilise a hammer and angle grinder from the shed to get them off then lots of duck tape to re assemble it all
Looks a bit funky but still works lol

BTW tool looks kinda like this:
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/71/995/44719/ITEM/BikeMaster-Shock-Spanner-Wrench.aspx

or

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/71/995/5006/ITEM/Motion-Pro-Shock-Wrench.aspx?SiteID=Google_PLA995&WT.mc_ID=10012&esvt=0-GOUSC&esvadt=9-0-3886819-1&esvaid=30548&kw={keyword}&gclid=COPp3qqk_bcCFWrl7AodHSMA8w

I'm using the honda tool that came with my tool kit, but one of these might do just as well.
