billy connolly's route 66

anyone been watching billy connolly's american route 66 road trip on itv 2500 miles on his trike from chicago to los angeles its been very funny for a man nearly seventy until he crashed when his cruise control jammed on still you have to admire him for doing it

Connolly's a funny man and I was a fan of his for years but he's been a multi-millionaire for far more years than he worked in a Glasgow shipyard, so his rambles in the past about that and Glasgow life is a bit of a sham because he left all that behind in the 70's. He also lost a lot of fans with his comments about the beheading of hostage Ken Bigley. I've watched a few of his travelogues with his trike and they've been OK, but not Route 66 yet.

The USA is a vast and varied country, and I'd have thought the TV programme makers could have came up with a more original idea than Route 66, which has been done to death. Even I know most of the original route has disappeared due to Interstate construction, and development.

As for the trike, it makes good telly and The Big 'Yin in an entertaining host, but half the time on his other programmes he's been pulling it along on a trailer with a Land Rover. I would haved like to see him on a bike, but that doesn't make good viewing.

I'm enjoying the series. He may not be to everyone's taste, but it's good viewing.
IIRC he did a 'World Tour of Scotland' on a bicycle some years ago.

It's a Boom trike, I think that they are German in origin. Mark Evans built one from a kit on Quest---'A Trike is Born' believe it or not. It was quite interesting but not as much as the one where he restored an old Hardly Davidson with a foot operated clutch.

I ride about 4 miles of route 66 at least 2 times a day, and my favorite microbrewery is part of the route 66 days coming up next month! And your right, rte. 66 aint nothing to look at! Matter of fact, ill go right now and get some pictures!

No historic byway can be complete without a pawnshop that sells porn and scooters!
