Hello,

I am a new rider, it's my first motorcycle, I just got an SW600 and after few days of riding it I realize that whenever I am above 100km/h and I use one hand to readjust my helmet or the mirror the handlebar start shaking and vibrating, this is really scary, I don't know if its the wheels that cause it. Sad Sad
anybody can help me understand what can cause this.

(sorry my English is more frenglish) Sad

Safe ride

Both mirrors or only one? If just one it could be a loose mirror head. Of both then it could be an unbalanced tire or possibly a bent wheel

You could raise the scoot (while it is on the understand) using a car scissors jack and see if the front wheel is off balanced by spinning the wheel and see if it always comes to rest in the same position.

If the mirror head is loose the only fix is to replace the entire mirror & stem.

Hi Tim,

thank a lot for your advises,
I'm really new to riding scoots.
will follow your advises and revert back asap,
ooh also, its only one mirror, even when I leave my left hand for few secs, the bike starts shaking very aggressively like if I just burst the tires.

Sorry, I misread your post. Dramatic handlebar shake could be due to a bad tire, a bent wheel or loose (or bad) steering head bearings.

Is your front tire cupped along the edges? On some brands of tires it is not uncommon for the outer edges to wear and become cupped (scalloped) even though the center tire treads are still good. That scalloping will transmit to the handlebars usually when decelerating at about 30mph (45 - 50 kph).

Have you checked the tire pressure?

If the tires appear to be in good condition and the edges not scalloped then, because you are new to riding and probably not familiar with doing your own maintenance or repairs, perhaps it's best to have a dependable shop check the problem.

Tim

More information on your bike is needed. What model year is your Swing? Age of your tires (search for date code on this forum).  How many miles on the odometer? Need to check the front and rear wheel bearing for wear. Also check the head bearings for wear. If you are uncomfortable working on your bike, have a Honda dealer inspect your bike and advise you on anything that may need replacing and/or servicing. And that is my 2¢.

Capt, I have ridden for over 50 years. The scooter front wheel does not have alot of forward rake to it. This makes bad rims or wheels shake horribly. If the bike is shaking more than the handle bars that most likely rear wheel problem or windshield flow. If the shacking is just in the handlebars, rims and tires. (given that you are in a straight line when shaking takes place. In a corner that can also be a bad shock.
