Here's a photo of CathyN's Silverwing taken while on tour in the western US last year. Notice the tank bag, saddle bags & waterproof duffle; it shows that some folks know how to properly use a Touring-class scooter. It's not loading up the bikes on a trailer now is it?

Yes nice photo, but the tunnel bag, soft saddlebag/panniers, and waterproof bag on the passenger seat are just a normal configuration for touring on a maxi scooter depending how much kit you have to carry. On solo trips a loaded bag behind the ride can also serve as a comfortable back rest

It's just a variation on the set up used by touring or rallying bike riders, with a tunnel bag used instead of a tank bag.

I've used tunnel bags since I got into maxi scooters by converting a large tank bag my Helix. While providing useful storage for rain gear and other stuff I might need out on the road, an old git like me now finds they can be a nuisance when getting on and off taller maxi scooters like the Burgman, and Silver Wing.  Sad

agree on the tunnel bag, making getting on/off difficult for old farts

I agree with all of the above from riding long distance. There is one area that I have noticed the S/W is a little lax in this mode. I have noticed a definite difference in stooping power when fully loaded. Has any one noticed this or is just me? Has any one switched to a different disc brake pad material?

Leave brake pads alone----stock work fine when bike is new, I see yours is 2006, I would replace pads with new OEM, clean disks, brake fluid been changed lately?----check load on bike, against recomended GVW by Honda. I think, based on my experience, pads last at least 50,000 miles, front and rear---do own tire work you can inspect them at tire change time.

Only one place I have been challenged on auto scooter brakes---Mt. Washington authorities check on way up----idiots ride scooters up and then drag brakes all the way down=brake fade. Trick is to get drive engaged and then there is some engine braking. They prefer you don't scooter up. Bikes with unbraked trailers are not allowed either.

Mr Grinsel, are you saying that you rode a Silverwing up Mt Washington. If so, how did you get around the auto ( CVT)  scooters prohibition? AFAIK Burgman 650s are allowed, Silverwings are not. I am given to understand that there is no such prohibition on Pike's Peak.

I rode a Helix----did some talking/asking/explained I have degree in Safety, riding long time. Another time went there with Kawasaki Voyager, had to dis-connect trailer.

Problems they had with scooters-----riders who just didn't know what they are doing.....probably trailer bikers.

Love it. Bikes look better luggaged up and enjoying themselves.

Thanks Tim,  I was surprised to see my photo on the board today.  That was a great trip.  My longest one to date.  5100 miles.  My SW just turned over 67,000 miles on the odometer this past weekend.  I believe that was taken in Idaho July 2015.
