GIVI Tunnel Bags

Anyone have any experience with the GIVI Tunnel Bags? I am a little confused by all the models as to which one best fits the Silverwing or which ones work best. Models T455, T435, T496, and Ea105 are a few I've seen. Any help or like or dislike feedback appreciated.

I have no personal experience, but I put tunnel bag in the search box and found some threads previously posted. You might peruse these while waiting for answers from others. Of course it may give you more questions.

I have GIVI Tunnel bag, model number unknown. I believe GIVI stopped offering these for a couple of years and now has them available again.

Mine is used for long trip---I have thrown the straps/buckels away and keep on tunnel with Velcro. Plus putting stuff in bag moves some weight forward and lower Minus harder to mount bike. Bag must be removed each gas fill.

Minus my bag I not waterproof.

For day to day riding I don't use, but it goes on every long trip.

A friend and his wife rode their SW on a 10-day tour of New England and the Canadian Maritimes a while back and had ALL their stuff under the seat and in a Givi T-435 tunnel bag. It's not that the Givi is all that big, but can you imagine telling your Mrs that, "No you can't take that either because there's no room for it". The poor guy must have gotten quite an ear beating over those 10-days.

I bought my 22 litre capacity tank bag in Düsseldorf 8 years ago, it's fine for carrying some of the extra kit I take when touring but not really suitable to keep attached for everyday use.

For a start a fully loaded tunnel bag almost comes up to the top of the seat so there's a technique for getting on and off when it's fitted. So if you're riding a maxi scooter because you have trouble throwing your leg over a motorcycle and find it easier stepping over the tunnel, a tunnel bag especially a large one may block ease of access.

Refuelling is a bit of a drag too, you have to release the bag from it's Velcro mounts on the tunnel and take it off completely, especially if you want to brim the tank.

There's usually Fastex buckles on tunnel bags so you can convert them to a tail bag. I modded mine and removed all the tail bag buckles, as I originally used it like a tank bag with route cards and a clear topped waterproof cover.

I have a T455 and use it for touring, it works great for keeping valuables close at hand and fits snug in the tunnel. Comes with a rain cover. I would recommend it for the Swing. If you like to refer to printed maps there is a model that has a map pocket on top (not sure which one). Meldrew's comments re access and fuelling are spot on.

As above, harder to mount/un-mount bike and bag must be removed to refuel, but, IMO also a tunnel bag is vulnerable to tampering. But on a long trip its a good thing to have the extra space.
What's needed is a rigid, waterproof, lockable tunnel bag that swings out of the way for mounting and fueling and then swings and locks back into place.

Honda will not do anything for SilverWing---as it is not even current model in N. American lineup.

You don't really need a tunnel bag, I made one to use on my Helix from a Chase-Harper Europa tank bag that I used in my BMW GS days. Being large with an expandable section and folding stiffeners it was an ideal fit for the long low tunnel of the Helix. I just unpicked the stitching to remove the foam tank mat and then used a two nylon straps with a male Fastex buckle at each end that ran underneath the Helix, and clipped into the female Fastex buckle on each corner of the tank bag.

With the Helix filler cap being horizontal in the tunnel I could usually just push the bag out of the way to refuel, and then move it back into position. The tank bag had a clear topped waterproof cover ideal for route cards that were at knee level, it was a great tunnel bag.

It was a great piece of kit and I'd still be using it now were it not for the fact it's too large for the tunnels of the maxi scooters I bought after the Helix. The 250Majesty, 400 and 650 Burgmans, and my Silver Wing.    The only reason I'm currently using a moto-detail tunnel bag is because it fitted both Burgmans, I use it now on the Silver Wing but it's not as useful as the Chase Harper.

So if there's anyone out there that still has a tank bag from their biking days, why not see if fits the tunnel of your Silver Wing and if it does then convert into a tunnel bag.  

I,too,used ex-BMW tank bag on my Helix's----worked great.

Too bad newer maxi scooters are not designed by or for riders.

While touring I am using Givi Ea105. It fits Silverwing like a glove. It sits so tight on the tunnel so I use only one strap which goes around the saddle hinge. When adding petrol I only need to put the bag on the saddle without removing the strap. Very convenient. Givi Ea105 can be used as a hand bag to carry items like camera when walking.
