hi all
simple question
can the odometer / total km on 2010 swing 600 be adjusted / tweaked
the reasons i'm asking is because i sold my 2003 swing
and i'm gonna buy a second hand / used 2010 swing , owner says it has 1500 km and he drives it very rarely
but the outer condition of the bike says other wise and a friend of mine mentioned that he might have tweaked the odometer
so the question is can it be done ?

Can't be tweaked. The entire meter control board could be replaced, in which case the new odo would start at zero. However the expense of replacing the board would far exceed the preceived value of a tweaked odo.

That said, he could have possibly replaced the original meter control with a lesser-mileage eBay item.

Of course odometers can be tweaked or the 'mileage recalibrated'. The practice is called Clocking, and it's easier to do on a digital electronic odometer than a mechanical analogue one. If you don't believe me a quick Google Search on Clocking Odometers will tell you how it's done.

Oops! I stand corrected and enlightened. Thanks Meldrew.

Unless the seller is a genuine shyster it still looks like a PITA though.

With that few miles look at the brakes, the disks should be practically unmarked and the pads at full thickness. The tires should look like new as well with only 1500 kilometers on them. The odometer could have been fiddled but usually isn't worth it because it really doesn't affect the selling price much. Is this one in a normal price range for a '10 model? I'd consider what it was worth if pristine and adjust my offer downward depending on condition.

If you disconnect the rear wheel speed detector, the odometer will stop adding miles. It's very easy. Happened to me by accident when the wire broke.

Disconnecting the speed sensor will also blank out the speed that you are traveling.

If the entire clip is unplugged or all of the wires are cut that is correct. I had an odd combination get cut / shorted that allowed the speedo to work, but stopped the odometer and ABS.

I just bought a 2003 with 2000 miles on the clock , tread looked good on the tires but the date code was 2002 so they were original tires . Getting new ones put on Friday . Decided to try the Michelin Pilot Power Pure SC .

There areas that looked like it had more use like the floor boards , it was dropped so a few scratched on Tupperware .. but lots of areas looked brand new

Hello Red. I wonder if the brake fluids have been changed, I had mine changed recently when I got new tires and the braking has improved a lot.

Best wishes and hope you have fun on the Swing

Hi Suzy , Yes I would I need to flush the Break Fluid as well as replace the Brake lines in the future . The breaks seem to work really well right now so im gonna ride it awhile . The new tires made a big difference on how well it rode . The rubber was pretty hard on the old tires .

Late, I know, but in case someone else has this question... 1500km - it should have the original tires (look at the date code and brand) and the tires should pretty much look new. Likewise so should pretty much everything else on the bike look new. That will probably be enough to know if the clock was turned back.
