Hi all , just done a comparison between a burger 400 and a Honda sh 300 .Hence posted in the section other scooters as did not want too get in the way of the diehard wingers .Well the Honda nails the burger by a country mile up to 55mph ,then I could see the burger gaining on me in my mirrors .By 70mph he is on me and pulling away slightly so the extra cubes makes a slight difference ,but the burgers weight does hinder it on initial acceleration .However the extra storage on the burger a real bonus over the Hondas tiny storage cannot even get a open face helmet in the trunk .Economy wise burger around 60 mpg versus 80mpg on the Honda .The biggest question for everyone price new burger 400 abs £ 6300 ,Honda £4700 abs .So you pays your money takes your pick I guess .Thanks go too my mate Darren for bringing his burger out to play .  bounce   Smile

I had an SH300i for a year before trading it in for my Swing. The SH was very quick up to about 60mph and could do 80ish flat out. Initially when I got my Swing I thought I'd made a mistake as it was slower on accelleration but this improved considerably as the engine was run in - I've now done 4000 miles. Being lighter and narrower, the SH is easier to make progress in heavy traffic but overall the Swing handles much better on open roads, can carry a bigger load and is more comfortable on a long run. I'm pleased I changed.  Smile

Glad you like the swing atrick ,only sat on one at the n.e.c in November kinda felt like I was sitting in a armchair .Too big a beast for where I live on a embankment ,cannot negotiate the turn into my front gate .I use to have a Kawasaki 500cc and that was hard enough .Is it me or does the length of a scooters wheelbase seem to be getting longer. One of the reasons I got the sh was because of its relatively short wheelbase 2100mm approx., so I guess I am stuck in the 300cc/400cc class .But I don't do many long runs 75 miles is as far as I have needed to go .Horses for courses I guess go steady.  Smile

I think you're missing a little in the comparison, woodworker. When you've finished drag racing the bikes...which do you want to live with on a day for day basis, for whatever riding needs you have?

I've not ridden the SH300, but I had a Kymco Bet&Win250 for a year before buying a Burgman 400. Yes, I know, the Kymco is not the SH300, but the engine size and capabilities are about the same. When my work commute was 9.5 miles, the Kymco was fine. When my boss told me I was moving to the other office 30 miles away in two weeks...I went down that night to look at a Burgman 400. There was no question in my mind of which I wanted to use on that commute.

The SH300 will be close to its design limits when you are up at 70 mph. The Burgman 400 is designed to run up to 105 mph and will still be well within its design envelope when you're at 70 mph.

The Burgman 400 has the largest underseat storage of any scooter in the world. It's all totally usable too. I did an IBA Saddle Sore 1000 on mine and the seat was like sitting on a barcalounger for the entire 1000 miles. To me, the comfort and storage would be considerations to think about after you're done with drag racing the two bikes.

And btw, if you fit Dr. Pulley Sliding weights and HiT clutch to your Burgman 400, it'll eat the Honda SH300 for lunch. There's no lag on accelerating with that properly setup. Twist the throttle and it responds.

Not Again, what the hell interest is A 400 anything against a 300 anything. You just don't get the m essage Woodworker do you? This section is for the Silverwing 600. We that own and ride them come on this site to learn and pass on information and help others if possible. I for one am NOT interested in any other machine on this site, i own a Burgman 400, and go on a site that has that machine as it's topic. Mad

Old Limey,

This is the "other scooter" section of the forum and woodworker was just sharing his review of the 2 scooters. This is the proper place to do this on the site. If this was posted in the main forum then we would have moved it.

I can't see why woodworker felt the need to start a topic comparing the Suzuki AN400 Burgman and the Honda SH300i again. He's already done it before in a topic called "400 burger versus sh300i" he started late last year.

It's not as if he's owned both scooters to compare them, just like in his recent Silverwing versus Integra topic.

I'm with Old Limey here, I couldn't care less about Honda's recently discontinued high wheel commuter scooter, or the Integra.

Woodworker has started several threads about other bikes. Whilst I agree with Jeff that they are in a section for "other bikes", I quote woodworker's introduction..

If one doesn't own and is unlikely to own something, why would one join a specific forum and make posts only about other items?

You know the old joke, how many bikes does a guy need? Just one more!

I am always on the lookout for my next bike, I have bought three since I got my swing. I enjoy the posts about other scooters and what people think of them. It's not like the post is too distracting from the other eight posts per day in the middle of February when most of us aren't able to ride unless there's a freakishly warm day.

If you don't like a subject, skip over it then, don't try to decide for other people what they should and shouldn't be interested in.

So woodworker keeps posting about his Honda SH 300i which has as Brubaker says has been recently discontinued from the Honda UK lineup. woodworker hasn't mentioned any of the faults, foibles and recalls that SH300i owners on UK forums have posted about.

What's so interesting about that curates egg the Integra? the original 700 version has been a poor seller in the UK and doesn't seem to appeal to either bikers or maxi riders. We now have a 750 version in the Honda UK lineup, it's currently being discussed and generally slagged off on a popular UK maxi forum if you wish to know more.

No one on this forum owns an Integra as far as I know, and I'd say none of the British members on here actually wants one. The 700 or 750 versions of the Integra are not in the Honda USA lineup, so if you want to know more about these scooters than who once sat on one, I suggest you go look on maxi forums in countries where they are on sale.

To chime in late... I owned a Burgman 400 and I drive a SW 600...it is true...there is no comparison ....the Swing wins hands down....if you want to know why...go to the Burgman USA website and read all my blogs under Past Ron....the bottom line (to save reading time): To work on The Swing is a breeze, IF, you ever need to...and that is a big IF. The only work I see really being done on the Swing is PM`s....NOT with the Burgman 400.

Just out of interest i read what Wooworker wrote about the two bikes in Question. My Burgman 400N is 14yrs old in two months. I have been out on it today, Over the hills and out of site of any Police i topped 95mph I think the speedo is about 5mph out, so 90mph. I get 84mpg. As for acceleration mine compares favourably with the Silverwing as iam not a full throttle starter. I don't use it if going for more than a two hour run as my knees get sore. I fitted an Iridium plug and recently changed oil and filter and cleaned the Air filter. No more, as i'm boring myself. Rolling Eyes

I have had 2 Silverwings, 2 Honda Helix's and 1 400 Burgman. No need to buy another Burgman.

Requiring the valves adjusted every 4,000 miles on the Burgman was the deal breaker there. That is more than once a year for me. No thanks. I was pleased at how nimble, quick and the cargo box had quite a bit of room. The rear tire came off with 3 lug bolts after removing the muffler.

"As for acceleration mine compares favourably with the Silverwing as iam not a full throttle starter."

I beg to differ on this. In fact it isn't even close. I rode with a pair of 400 burgmans last summer and the only way their accelleration was similar to my Silverwing was if I was at less than 1/4 throttle and they were wide open - and even then I would pull away. It is almost as if the Silverwing had two more gears to downshift into and nail sweetspot in the power band. The burgmans would very gradually build speed, but they couldn't seem to get the RPMs high enough to get into the engine's power band. I thought they looked pretty nice, but they were just a bit weak carrying a load in the mountains.

I think it's fair to say staying out of the wind matters a lot more, and that's the main reason the majority of Silverwing owners on this forum junk that awful OE screen and fit the Givi Airflow.

I agree with you. First thing I did was put on an adjustable Givi.

"in the wind" is a biker term meaning that we are still riding motorcycle.

It's just another tired biker cliché like "ride free" "live to ride, ride to live" "loud pipes save lives” and all the other rubbish you see printed on black T shirts complete with skulls and other macho biker rubbish.

Hello.
I have both a Wing 600,acbr 1100 xx and a 08 sh300i.
The sh is a specially made city bike while the Wing and the burgman
is regarded more like a comuter bike.

That's true mate, most bikers wouldn't be seen dead on one, until their knees or back are knackered, they can't swing a leg over a motorcyle seat anymore, or manoevre a heavy bike about. Then it's "Hello, I've been lurking on here awhile as I'm thinking of buying a Silver Wing and I'm looking for advice."  Smile

Commuter bike?
Not here.
Most people don't know what to call a Silverwing.
The typical across the pond response is:

"That's a scooter?. No way. It's way too big to be a scooter."

What ever floats your boat. If you like oil leaking Harleys and can keep them running, God bless ya. If a 49cc scooter makes you break a smile, Good for you. If a motorized kickboard does it for you.... Give it hell. Mox Nix to me as long as it makes you happy.

mox nix. An American spelling of the German expression "macht nichts" which means roughly, "it makes no difference."

Thanks for straightening that out.

Both are pronounced the same.

Excuse my hillbilly spelling of it as I lived over there for 6 years.... my Mother was a German war bride and I never spelled it out before.

I hope my post did not offend anyone.  No paper was wasted in this post but quite a few electrons were inconvenienced.

This has nothing to do with any body or any post in this thread.  I just thought it was a funny picture and thought I would share it with those that have a sense of humor.

lalee, I wasn't trying to correct your spelling. I just Goggled mox nix and copied what came up. Cool

Well I am just suffering from cabin fever and chomping at the bit to get some riding in.

If the rain doesn't stop, I will be planning a trip to Phoenix for some baseball spring training, sunshine and scooter riding.

You won't be riding there on a Burgman 400 or a Honda SH300i so what's that got to do with this topic?

By the same token, one might ask what this topic has to do with the Silverwing!

Actually this topic has NOTHING to do with the Silver Wing. That is why it is in "Other scooter" topic.

I can't let this thread die before throwing in my 2 cents worth. I like my SWing, but I miss the shifting. Would you believe that ???? I do. I got a VT1100 T last year that I am looking forward to getting to know better.
However, I don't know if anyone here has seen the new concept bike that Honda unveiled at the Osaka whatever. It is called the Bulldog. ( Google).
If I am going to have one dog in my kennel, this is the one I want. It is a shifter, but everything else about it reminds me of the Big Ruckus. I can see myself using it in the woods and in the city.
Scootertrash: I started riding at 57, 62 now ; and I can't say I have had a single ride that was not enjoyable. In fact, riding probably saved my quality of life once I was put out to pasture. I like your spirit !!!
