Rider Dec 2013----has nice 3 scooter review----Burgman 650---BMW---SilverWing.

My take BMW---if I want Kymco I will buy Kymco---and avoid costs that can come with BMW---have some experience,BMW owner since 1958.

Burgman is expensive--but for me offers easy rear wheel removal and electric wind shield...heavy and expensive.

Leaving SilverWing---lightest, most economical, best gas mileage, silver painted wheels----from my experience, nice ride with Givi adjustable shield, doesn't break and is available discounted from Southern Honda in Chattanooga. but getting a little long in tooth---but why change something that works?

Something to think about.

There is also a report on the Corbin seat for the Silver Wing in the same issue.

Everybody pls look carefully before Corbin seat on SilverWing----it leaks water into storage container and I don't know for sure but it looks like top of seat has stitches/needle holes from sewing they usually = wet butt for days after contact with rain/water.
I ride in all weathers and found my stock seat on SilverWing fine. Most people have seat complants as they are overweight/out of shape/ don't ride everyday---then take multi days trips with few breaks and butt hurts----I try to get off everyhour, walk around bike and my 74 yr old butt can be ok in long days.also no underwear seems to work fine, too....has for me for over 1.5 million miles and 60 yrs of everyday riding.

Then with most of the action on this forum being used SilverWings----sticking another $600 in used/old bike does not make sense to me

I find the Airhawk seat does just fine. It cost me about $129. Gives me a little more leg room and it is easily removed. Didn't realize the Corbin seat leaked from not sealing properly. That stinks for as much as it costs.

John, you don't need to sound so condescending. Not everyone has the time to ride as much you. But you have been told this dozens of times yet it doesn't seem to ever sink in.

Glad to see RIDER do the article..... however it seems written by someone who doesn't really understand the appeal/value of a Silverwing....let alone maxi-scooters in general... no mention in the article that aftermarket windshields and other accessories were available which could improve the basic product.

I have to agree with billc. Very perfunctory article, overlooking the aftermarket solutions to each machine.  Since the SW has been around so long, it has solutions to every issue.

Also, it compared list prices.  List price might be what people pay for a BMW or Suzuki, but the Honda can be had for a discount.  And the comment that you can't get a box on the Honda was just plain stupid!  These guys do multi page articles on replacement shocks and can't even see where you are supposed to drill through the rack?

Still, at least they took the time to write about scooters.  Would have killed them to do a 0-60 for each of them?

Trade prices: local BMW Dealer, wanted $9200 and my 2011 (left over) Burgman 400 to trade=no thanks from $$ standpoint and joke to me....and then they want to service new scooter at their prices!
Based on previous trades at Southern Honda, I will probably buy SilverWing from them.....7Jurock windshield (based on experienceand their price) and GIVI rack for my now near 15 year old E46 Givi Box..SilverWing needs fresh oil/filters and riding until belt change time an I will stretch that to 20,000... but carry a spare.
