Front Forks

My 2003 Silverwing seems to be riding a little "bumpier" than I remember from past years.
I have never seen any indication of shock oil leakage on the garage floor, nor on the bike, but if feel that the front shocks are not performing correctly. Tire pressure is a Honda specs.
I am wondering if there is an easy way to check whether the front shocks are working properly and can you add oil if that is the problem? billc.

Seems like you hit bump stops too easily.New fork oil ,or better a set of hyperpro springs and oil (included in the set).Round 150 $ plus labor

Not sure there is an easy way of checking them without taking them off. To add oil or to replace it (better) would mean taking them off too.

Try a search on hyperpro springs on here you may find a post about fitting them to the front forks which may help if you decide to check them out yourself.

Thanks for the comments, I may use hyperpro shocks, but what about the cost of oe replacement shocks.... I have been happy with my shocks from Honda....just wondered if this was a "fixable" repair.

Could be a front tire problem. Cupped, etc.

Could be a tire problem, but in this case it isn't. I have virtually new Pirelli Diablos and they are supe smooth. This occurs only when you hit uneven pavement or small holes.

I don't know how many miles you have on your bike but a family members Big Ruckus with 25,000 miles on it got real shaky when you hit a slight bump in the road. I thought there must have been a leak in the fork seal and all the fluid came out of one but not the other making it dangerous to ride but when I pulled them apart, both forks had all the fluid in them. It was nasty looking fluid but there. I changed the fluid and put it back together and rode it. The front end was like new again and rode great. The moral of this story is, the fluid wears out over a period of time and needs to be changed.

The shocks are serviceable, you can replace the seals and bushings if they are worn. You can also try a heavier grade fork oil first, I think the hyperpro kit uses a 20w grade oil.

Lift the front wheel os the ground and see if the steering stays straight .If the wheel turns to the left ,your bearing is loose or damage.I just re tighten mine and it feels and rides better.
