Hand guards for the SW

Anyone got any recommendations or advice about fitting hand guards to the bars on the SW? After riding in our freezin weather recently, even with good gloves and the grip heaters I'd appreciate some wind deflection from my digits!

Since fitting the Givi AF214 adjustable screen the tiny winglets seem to help with the heated grips and good gloves!!!!

Had deflectors on my Burgman, they were great. As I said above, not needed on the SW with Givi screen!

Yeah, the GIVI screen sort of has them built in. Mine is fitted with the Honda high screen. It's great, but this is the only design flaw I could point to. How about fork gaiters? Ever see those zip on ones anymore or anything similar?

Another option for hand guards is "Isotta"

I considered fitting Isotta hand guards or Acerbis Dual Road hand guards for a long time. They are probably fine to use if you have the stock Honda screen, but the majority of us have fitted a Givi AF214 Airflow screen and there's a good chance of them hitting the sides of the screen on full lock. Or having the lock reduced because the hand guards prevent the bars from being turned fully.

And I'm led to believe that's an MOT Fail in the UK.

Wouldn't be a problem with my Clearview windshield and vent.

Below is a cut and paste job from the UK's MOT testing site. I have added the 'bold' text to show what would fail you if your H/Bars struck anything when rotated.

STEERING

The next highest fail rate is on steering, look at the test items below and if you’re in any doubt as to whether they will pass, consult a qualified service engineer.

With the front wheel raised off the ground the handlebar must not hit or foul the tank when the steering is fully turned lock to lock, the steering must move freely and without drag or notchiness.

The handlebar must be securely mounted and the grips secure.

With the fork sliders held, try to push and pull on the forks, there must be no play in the steering head bearings.

Thanks everyone. I've made an enquiry from Eurobikenet. Tom, which protectors did you buy from National Cycle? They don't specify the Silver Wing for any of their sets.

I have heated grips on my 2001 Wing but the heat just seems to get whipped away because the grips are sitting out in the slipstream, not like the old Beemer whose grips were sheltered behind the fairing. Saw some hand guards on eBay but they mostly look quite ugly.

I have the clearview XL.
The national cycle guards do get in the way of full turn with that as well.
I ended up trying some custom mount work with the national cycle guards but I had time and money and a really good welder to work with. Was not worth it at all.

I can highly recommend the Tucano hand grip muffs combined with heated grips. I ride all year round in Austria down to temperatures of -10c and my hands remain cozy in a pocket of warm air! Mmmmmmm. I also have the Tucano leg cover attached to my SW, which combined with another fur lined leg skirt thing (which I call my granny blanket!), fastened round my waist, keeps my legs completely warm in freezing temperatures as well.
