smelly brakes

just turned little over 3500 mi. and starting to get brake pad smell, checked the pads, can still see cut outs, so pads are not worn that much, not riding and using brakes any more than usual. anyone have any ideas before I take scoot to shop?

Parking brake dragging? Bike up on centerstand. rotate wheels by hand, you can feel drag. Then look for cause.

Are the roads particularly 'dirty' or 'wet' at the moment? Whilst the brakes may be smelling it may simply be a build up of road grime getting trapped between the pad and the disc, heating up and passing on a brake pong!!!

Try working the park brake a few times and look aft, sorry nautical speak, and check to see if the cable is operating the parking brake lever.

Worth an investigation by yourself before the 'professionals' sting you ($'s) for a simple fix.

worked the parking brake lever back and forth, adjusted parking brake, rear wheel feels like it's dragging, might have warped pads, will let shop take a look at it. thanks for replies.

Not a lot to the parking brake. I would take it apart, clean it put it back together and see if it works. If not then take the scooter in to shop and pay the big $$. You really can't lose anything by trying. Just my 2 cents.

Sardine juice works good is hard to find and clean. A little goes a long way and you can get creative pour in exhaust or other hot places, Had a good teacher on that one, you put it in the heating duct on a car , if they don't find it after a cold snap you'll be ready to sell it for scrap, and get a new one.
