Rather than hijack GratfulGrrl's thread any further, I decided to post this in a new thread.

Here is a write-up with pics which shows how I came up with a backrest solution for my scoot. There is definitely no high tech engineering here. It was literally done with a hacksaw Rolling Eyes But a backrest cover from Alaska Leather concealed up my rather unsightly hardware. This worked for me. It's not nearly as cool, or as comfortable, or as adjustable as the Utopia. And I'm sure it doesn't doesn't measure up comfort wise to a Corbin or a Russell Daylong saddle. But it worked for me. One note - if you are over 6'0'' this option probably doesn't give you enough room.

Here's the link to the write-up.

P.S. I also did Whit's saddle farkle to increase seat comfort (cut out a section of the seat foam and replaced with high density memory foam.) Another fine tip from the Whitster and a low cost solution for increasing saddle comfort.

Hey Mike,
great write up, great pics, and looks like a really nice finished product too. If I rode two-up, I'd surely consider copying your design, but since I don 't, the Leroy Beal design continues to work for me.

Your pic of the CA coast sent some chills down my spine. Maybe I'll get out there on my swing at some point. We lived in and around Santa Cruz for almost ten years, both kids were born there, and I've only been back once since we moved to NM in 1990.

Ride safe, and thanks again for the lip and ears. (Darkside tire awaiting installation later this summer).

Mike,

I just saw your post here and think that is a great job. It also looks very comfortable too. I was thinking of doing something like this too but with an old wooden, curved backrest from an old chair. I'm still thinking, in my head, how I want to do it though. Thanks.

Thanks MikeH,
I downloaded the file to my SWing folder. Now I need to get to the store and get me some "round tuits" so I can get going on it.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but it appears that the link is no longer working - does anyone happen to have a copy of it that could be re-posted?

you might try PM'ing MikeH, if he has that option available in his profile?
