Dear All;

Any advice on comfortable cruising RPM's on S'wings? Not used to seeing 5,000 RPM @ 70 mph (indicated).

Thanks!

I believe you're just fine there.Sw can travel with comfort and relatively fair consumption up to 7000 rpms for........ ever with no issue !

6500 rpm at 90 mph (INDICATED). Comfortable motorway cruising.

Cheers,

Cool:
5,000 rpms at 70 mph doesn't sound unusual for the Swing. One thing you will notice about the Swing is that if you keep your rpms at or less than 5,000 you will generally get pretty good gas mileage. Pushing the rpms higher causes the Swing to get thirsty.

Probably why i do well on fuel economy,i usually travel at 50-60mph. The legal limit on the fastest roads(our motorways) is 70mph. I avoid Motorways as i prefer what we call A-B roads, where the limit is,at best, 60mph. On these roads you can keep a nice steady speed and enjoy bends( curves makes me think your talking about women) for some reason. I don't take much notice of RPM's. I listen to the engine and if that is sweet then iam happy Smile

its been a few days (thanks to Beryl), my recollection is that on my bone stock 2011 US model Silverwing 5000 rpm (indicated) gives me 62ish mph (indicated). I am 6 ft, 210 lbs driving on flat florida roads. I dont have a service manual, is there a spec on the gear ratio listed? (then we can calculate the theoretical mph for a given rpm, we just wont know how inaccurate the gauges (both tachometer and speedometer) are - i know that speedometers are calibrated by the factory to be purposely optimistic (indicating faster than one is actually traveling) to avoid legal claims and to meet some governments requirements. Using GPS one can get a better feel for the actual speed - and i would guess that the tach is more accurate (within 2%) than the typical speedometer is.

- since September i'v put 4000 miles in (while working full time and living just 12 miles from work). Wondering if there are different rollers from the factory for the different model years (I know that some folks have switched them out themselves). I feel that one of the negatives of the CVT is the gear ratios are too narrow - then again i was also disappointed on my Valkyrie Interstate - it needed a 6th gear in my opinion, one of the reasons i finally parted with it, the main reason was the fact that i no longer was taking the longer (1000 mile one way) bike trips that the Valkyrie (and its sister bike - Goldwing) really shined.

Thebreen

I'm going to check the tac and indicated speed tomorrow on my 2011 wing. I can tell you this. My speed'o is dead on accurate. I have checked the speed using both my Garmin gps's and the 2011 wing is dead on. My 2007 Honda VTX1300R is about 7 mph on the high side. To cruse at 65 on the x the indicated must be around 72 mph. I love that my wing is right on the money.

I will take a guess that your speed O is right on and thats why at 5000 rpms your speed is reading 62mph and not like others who report 70 mph at 5000 rpms. I believe Honda from 2011 on has corrected the speed O error.

Having a speedo that is 100% correct is a very rare thing indeed. Keep hold of it.

Find another Silverwing rider and go for a ride together, then compare speedo readings.

Cheers,

Not only have I already done that I checked it with my SUV and Honda Civic. I also have my gps units normaly installed in my vehicles. My honda civic is perfect. My suv speedo is about 1 mph off. The wing is right on with either gps unit? And yes I agree with you, its a keeper.

Thebreen,

At 5000 rpms my 2011 wing is just like yours, 62/63 mph. At 70 mph it is 5500 rpms.... Good luck
