Replacing drive rollers- Belt Empty
PostSubject: Replacing drive rollers- Belt   Replacing drive rollers- Belt I_icon_minitimeThu Oct 20, 2011 2:07 pm

I've been following the topic of Belt and Roller replacement. I have now over 13000 mls up, so changing the belt may soon crop up. Thanks to Jeffs pictorials i don't see a problem with the belt. I get the feeling most people would opt for the Dr pulley re placement rollers as opposed to the J Costa. My question would be, when should the Rollers be changed, is a particular mileage recommended? or is there something to look out for when inspecting/cleaning which tells you they need replacing? Smile

You would need to inspect for flat spots on the rollers but from what I understand they should last about 25,000 miles. I'm not sure if you meant Dr Pulley sliders instead of rollers. I like the sliders since they seem to make things even smoother, and Im' not sure if they make rollers. But if you don't see flat spots i would just keep them in if you are happy with them.

I changed to Dr pully at 6000 miles on my new silverwing just to have the performance of the sliders and I found a small flat spot on one of my stock rollers with only 6000 miles on them.

Dr. Pulley ( unionmaterial.com ) manufactures slider weights and roller weights (like stock rollers).

The service limit (minimum diameter) for your stock roller weights are 27.5mm (1.08 in.)

To my knowledge there is no softcopy Service Manual in English. The pdf Service Manual in German was done via a scanner.

Thanks very much for the speedy response.Iam not mechanically adept enough to measure the wear tolerances. If there is little wear that seems to be acceptable at my low mileage. I will only be changing the belt if i get the warning light, and at the same time cleaning and inspecting. Iam very happy with my bikes performance and MPG. Can i just confirm that to reset the V light Both H and M Buttons need to be held down and kept down for a few seconds before and after turning ignition on. Smile

Hold the buttons down until the V light starts to blink, then release.

The light will come on at 16,000 mikes regardless of the condition of the belt... it is an automatic alert designed into the electronics to serve as a reminder that it is due.
