My swing (only 1700 + miles) has started making a funky noise ONLY when starting from a dead stop. The best way I can describe it is that it sounds like a wild turkey (the bird, not the drink) gobble. It's ONLY from a dead stop. Is it time to take it back to the dealership for some warranty work?

I think they all make that noise, mine does as well. It's not all the time but happens frequently. I asked this question before and the consensus seemd to be that it was normal. Mine started at about the same mileage and I've since put on another 5000 km's, still get the noise at times but no perforamance issues at all, nor has it gotten worse. Being new to the SWing, I've been told by a lot of knowledgable folks here and other places that they have their own noises from time to time and it's nothing to worry about so I don't.

If you do take it in, let me know what they say. I tend to think it's a bit of belt slap or the rollers settling in somehow.

The belt on big scooters are known to have two noises.

The Silverwing gets a rumbling noise on take-off which is caused by the belt slapping the case. Lighter variator weights may help. A J Costa variator solved the problem, but they are hard to find in the USA now. You may have to live with it.

The other noise a Silverwing gets, belt-wise, is a squealing from a slipping belt or clutch. It is often more prevalent on bikes that are ridden gently. Try placing the bike on the center stand, starting it, hold the rear brake tight, and then rev the engine for 5-10 seconds. This usually eradicates the noise.

In the future, try taking off with more throttle. This gives the belt a little of the above treatment with every take-off.

I'm pretty sure the OP wasn't referring to the squealing sound issue. The "Turkey" noise is not solved by the same brake and rev technique or faster take offs that helps with the squeal.

I don't know about only the 10th bigbird, I've been eating turkey sandwiches for the past 3 days - lots of leftovers!

Interesting, I guess every situation is different, throttle with break did nothing to cure that noise but in my case it is quite random. Sometimes I'll notice it on every ride, then not at all for a few rides. Never does it from a completely cold start but after a fair bit of driving is when it seems to occur the most
