My new ride!

Hi Everyone,
I was finally tempted to the point of purchase last week. I've been looking at BMWs for quite a while, and finally found a used RT at a good price. Here's a pic of me on the new machine.



I will be putting the Swing up for sale this weekend, since I can't really justify having two bikes right now.

That's a sweet ride. If I were 10 years younger and $15k richer I'd have one of those as well.
I hope the BMW forum is half as good as this one. You'd be doing well.

Congrats on your new ride and hope you really enjoy it. Maybe give us a review of it sometime if possible. Hopefully you will stick around or pop in from time to time. Best of luck with selling your Swing. I have been to a BMW dealer a few times and some of those BMW's are really nice and comfortable bikes.

How would you compare the ride and comfort of the BMW with your Swing?

I'll be sticking around for sure. Too good of a group to just up and leave.

The ride of the bike is completely different from the S'wing. The RT rides like it's on rails through the corners, you just point it, and it goes. The Swing rides very well too, however I found it would occasionally feel less sure footed in tight turns, almost -I think it's the wheel size and seating position that makes such a big difference. Both bikes have a great low center of gravity.

The Swing is much easier to get on and off, that's for sure, and I'm not 100% pleased w/the storage on the RT. Even w/the two big panniers, it's still less convenient than the giant trunk under the Swing's seat.

Also, while going through city traffic, I think I prefer the Swing, the twist-go, no-clutching for stopping thing is a real bonus. My clutch-hand is going to need some working out. =)

Nice RT and great choice. My brother had one a few years back and I know you will love it. When Pat and I rode it I found it was a tad tall for my short inseam but the ride was great. When you let off the throttle that baby sure slows down fast like someone throwing an anchor out. And the fantastic brakes took a little getting use to. Pat and I owned an RT100 way back in a different life but that was BMW's inline 4 cylinder machine.

K100 was the inline 4. All of the "R" bikes have been boxers. :flower:

In any case, I'm sure that you will get used to the shifting quickly and will really appreciate the brakes.

If we have to be technically correct our BMW was a K100RT. It was called an RT in our BMW circle. Thanks...Dick

It's always a good day to get a new bike and you look good on it (it fit's ya). But what really makes me happy is to hear that your planing on staying on this forum. All the people hear are interesting and always have something good to say.

This forum would not be the same with out you here.

The "RT" suffix applied to both the K and R series. It denoted the fairing and luggage fittings. Both the K and R series were also offered as "naked" bikes, the K less so than the R.

The naked K bikes are gnarly looking beasts. Especially the latest configuration, with the Vorlon-like headlights, and brightly colored fork gaurds...

I think that ALL of the K bikes NEEDED the fairing, just to hide the otherwise butt ugly bike underneath. I had two, a K100 and a K1100, both LT's, and really liked both, as long as the plastic was on them.
