Help, seat won't unlatch

Put the swing in the shed a couple of weeks ago, and the seat was working fine. Today I went out to hook up the battery tender, and lo and behold, the seat would not unlatch. Anybody have any suggestions of how to get into the latch works if you can't get the seat open?

Try pushing down on the middle of the seat while you turn the key. This worked for me when I had crammed too much stuff under the seat.

Doesn't work. I think something broke about the latch system. I just can't figure out how to get into it to see what's going on.

Give this a try. Remove the small cover under the rear lights, just 2 screws. Then remove the 1 small screw at the bottom edge of the left side cover. Now carefully pull straight out at the bottom of the left cover just enough to get your arm inside the to feel what's going on. You can pull the cable end and un-latch the seat if needed at this point. The spring clips, buy the left turn signal, might pop out while you have your arm under the cover...it will pop back in when you get done.

Before going in to have a scooby at the lock mechanisum, have a look at the Microfische on Ron Ayers website - if nothing else it will give you an insight into how it all works.

It sounds to me like the bowden cable that runs from the lock fitting on the left hand rear panel to the rear lock point has broken/come adrift. There is a secondanry cable that then runs from the lock at the back of the bike to the other locking point under the seat center. If the first cable has gone neither lock will open , if its the secondary then only the rear lock will open - either way you're still a bit stuffed!

I must admit when I was fitting a new spring to the mechanisum a week or so ago when I had the opposite problem (see earlier thread) I did think that having cables to operate such an important part was a bit of a liability!

In the interests of wanting to know exactly what to do in the event of this problem arising for me - I'm gonna have a go at opening the seat without using the key; as if the cable had broken. I hope Honda considered this problem when building the bike. Before I set to, I'm going to check with my dealer friend in case Honda have published anything.

I once locked myself out...put my jacket with keys under the seat and locked it.....Anyway, removed the back cover, poked my arm up under the left hand side and just pulled down on the middle of the cable and it released the lock. Now I always carry spare set of keys in my back pocket.

Can you tell me which one is the correct one? In Year 2001 is no 600ccm scooter and in 2003 it begans with FSC600A and FSC600D. I thought Silver Wing is a FSJ600 but FSC600 seems to be the Silver Wing. And what is the difference between the A and D?

Both FSJ and FSC are the 600 Silverwing scooter. A is ABS, D is not ABS.

FSJ is non-USA (Japan, Europe, etc). FSC is USA. The only significant difference that I know of is the inclusion of a power outlet in the left side glove box in the FSJ models.

Thx. And if i'm correct, the first facelift was in 2004/2005 so that the 2003 FSC600D will fit to my 2001 FSJ600 without ABS except the missing power outlet?

To the best of my knowledge, yes.

Here in the UK the model designation is FJS 600 - thats what is says on the front of my owners manual.

In fact just to muddy the waters it actually say 'Honda FJS 600 A/D Silverwing',

I think UK could be possibly belongs to Europe also if they are driving on the wrong side

On the front cover of my manual it is called FJS600 without a letter. But i think in 2001 they are no ABS available...
