Danson trike observations

This was first posted in the Maxi-Scoots.com site in response to several questions from one of the other forum members.

Why? I'm 72, an ex-smoker with COPD and arthritic. Because of the
various medications, I no longer trust my balance at rest. That led to
the scooter in the first place.



I, too, looked at both the trike conversions, sidecars, etc. I have
wanted a chair since before my first motorcycle in 1967, but I could
never justify the expense. My primary passenger (my wife) was very
hesitant to want to learn to ride in a chair, so the trike won that
battle.



You are fortunate that you have a Burgman -- The Danson is (according to
the designer/company owner) more suited to build the trike on. I found
out, after I had bought it, that the SilverWing frame is a bit too
flexible. In any case, I think that any problems that I have can be
overcome. My son in a Master Machinist, willing to make my life as safe
and sane as possible. He also has about 35 years motorcycle riding
experience.



So much for the justification. The DIY was straight forward. The
instructions could have been more clearly written. Fortunately the
general sales are handled about 15 or so miles from my home, that helped
a lot. I spent more time taking the tupperware off the Swing than
putting the Danson kit on. I work slowly (too much so, according to my
family) -- it took almost a month beginning to end to get the job done.
Actual install time was about 20 hours.



I picked it up, so there was no delivery charge. I included the
"lighting kit" (mistake -- I've not installed it yet, probably will not,
it looks like something that you would use to wire your pickup to pull a
trailer, not something to provide additional light at the back of the
bike). But, including the "lighting kit" and local sales taxes the
final bill was US$5991.01 I know, this sounds like a lot of money, but
we somehow justified it.



It is a quality product.
