Swinging in the Rain

Second day commuting on the S'wing and it's raining. I was supposed how it handled in the wet, it thought it might be a bit hairy compared to my pan which always felt planted in any weather.

Throwing the Wing through a few corners in the rain gave no issues, I was pleasantly surprised

How do you guys find your wing in the wet

Right tires important.

I've never had a problem riding my SW in the rain. I use a little extra caution in turns and tight corners and I've only had the odd slip as the rear tyre 'lets go', but then I take that as normal for any bike.

I use the Hoops and the smaller wheels have to be accounted for but overall, "I ride fairly normally in the wet".....said the Actress to the Bishop!

Agreed, as much as the right technique..

There is a lot more rear weight bias to be aware of compared to a regular bike, but there is nothing to worry about provided your tyres are OK.

Riding a Silver Wing in the rain, another subject that's been covered numerous times before if you Search through old topics. You might even come across that gem of a post from that lad that had a sticker made saying ‘I Ride In The Rain'.

That still cracks me up years later.

I'll be testing the wings abilities in the rain and wind tomorrow for a 260 mile ride.

Damned British summer weather.

Funnily enough County Durham is not too bad. It's the southern portion of the ride that could be interesting with 45mph gusts and heavy rain.

You'll be surprised how comfortable in wet weather a Silver Wing fitted with a Givi Airflow and lower leg wind deflectors is at over 60mph.

That reminds me, for UK members, I have a new unused pair of lower leg wind deflectors which I will now put on the for-sale section.

Do you guys do anything special to protect your scooter from the rain and crud? Tecktyl anyone?

Tecktyl-type coatings? No: 1) Because that stuff will only lock in moisture; 2) Where would you spray that coating that you won’t need to access for routine maintenance?

Just hose off the scoot when you’ve arrived home after a nasty ride.

Add a mudflap to the front fender to help keep the crud from radiator.

Agreed. I ride my Pan is all weathers and throughout winter hose it down each weekend with cold water to remove any salt and crap. Nothing else it needed really

Bit of FS365 keeps the nasty stuff at bay.

Yep. I cleaned a lot of 'stuff' out of the rad after an incident this week.

Probably one of the Moderators, because 95% of the members are over the Pond and haven't a clue what FS365 stands for and that it's water based corrosion inhibitor from a Scottish company.

I tried the stuff over one winter about 15 years ago and didn't rate it at all.

Well they shouldn't edit the post, but post the link under their own name under a separate post.

It happens and, in this case, would be considered sensible, especially in the light of what Meldrew said.

I am a moderator on three forums, all of which are good but have slightly different 'codes'; what happens here is not necessarily the same as on the other two.
Standards are different but not better or worse.
