Hi, I’m Cody. Just bought a 2006 Silverwing with 9,500 miles on it. Just ordered tires cause the tires were mix-matched. Have had it for a week and so far so good. Going from adventure touring after selling my Triumph Tiger 1200XC to boomer scootering with the Silverwing. Love it!

That being said, I have one request, the variator was replaced with a JCosta Variator, pretty sure this is the source of my consistent V light coming on since the belt is perfect. Would anyone have an OEM used variator assembly, I want the care free and quiet durability of original equipment.

Hello Cody, welcome to the world. Yep stock is all right, although a Givi top box is very handy. Paul, in Iowa.

Congratulations, Cody on your new to you scooter. The 2006 was the only year Honda made a blue Silver Wing so I really like that one! Lots of good information on here.

Hello Cody. Welcome to the forum.

By all reports that JCosta deliveres some pretty impressive performance but the "pins" wear very quickly. So, yeah, you might want to revert to the original variator. However, IMHO, if you want to retain some of that perfirmance you might want to consider 24gm Dr Pulley sliding weights along with Dr Pulley slide pieces for the variator ramp plate when you go back to the OEM variator.

Regarding the "V" light; it's going to come ON when the RPMs are greater than what the ECU sees as being within the "normal" rear wheel speed. That is, the two PRMs are out-of-sync so the ECU sees that as belt slip. It will also happen when those JCosta variator pins wear. And will happen too, with light variator weights (sliders or rollers) on an OEM variator.

Tim

Thanks Tim, what would you recommend with an oem variator? would heavier sliders with an oem variator set off the V light, I will be doing a lot of touring at 75mph so lowering cruising rpms would be nice.

Welcome. Most are using 24-26 gram sliders. All have the the same shape and will lower RPM's about 500 once out all the way. Heavier will slow it down on acceleration with no benefit at 75. At 75 it will be turning 6K RPM's or so. 65 about 5k RPM's.

I often ride 275-350 mile days. Did 290 today oh so nice low 70's and mostly sunny.
