New direction of this site !!!

Hi All,

I have decided that I am going to keep this site going but I am closing it off to new members.  The only reason I really have kept this site going is because of all the good members that have been here for years.

BUT, for those that complain about the simplest things will be given a warning to stop complaining.  If that doesn't work the member will be banned.

I really hope those that decide to stay will just continue to do the same things you have been doing for years.  Just come on the site and have fun and enjoy yourself.  This doesn't mean that you can not speak your mind but please no disrespect to others.  You can have all the differing of opinions you want but do it with respect PLEASE.

If a member does not like a certain function of this site then you will just need to live with it.  If you don't like the + - function then don't use it.  We are not programmers here (mods) but just people like you who enjoy riding.  I have no inclination to learn 'html' or how to do fancy things.  The site is what it is and will stay this way.

I want to apologize to all of you GOOD members who have been here for years, or are still new, for getting upset when I come on the site just to hear some members complaining all the time.  Those complainers will not be here very long if they continue to complain.

I want to thank all of you that have been here all these years and hope you continue to be here and do the same thing you have done.  It doesn't cost much at all really to keep this site up, which is why I have never asked for any money.  I will continue to keep the ads off and add storage for pictures and attachments.

So please have fun and just do the same things you have always done and please just accept the site as it is, and has been since day 1.  A basic site which allows all of us to chat back and forth.

Jeff,  thank you for all you have done with this site.  It has been almost 10 years.  I joined in 2010 and Bob and I have learned so much from this site. From maintenance, to installing mods, to meeting a few members, to having a good laugh (Kurt’s Korner), learning about different products etc..  It has been a pleasure and I am happy you are going to keep it open.

Thank you very much Jeff for your dedication to this Silver Wing forum, even if you no longer ride a Swing. Maybe as the years go by you might return. Too bad the Swing production ended in 2013.

as a recent joiner (& having run forums) I know how thankless it can be. And everybody knows a moderator is always in the wrong
However I like this site and learn though I can't contribute much specialist knowledge but my main love is to share others rides & scenery which fulfils my love of travel.
I would love to post my trips but it means I have to learn another app to show pictures which as a luddite is riding time lost.
And no I haven't been online since November as I got weary of certain parties sniping & point scoring but have been informed normal service has resumed.
look forward to more content and have a great Easter all.

I appreciate your decision to keep it running. I for one don't know of anywhere else to get such valuable information from. By way of reciprocation, I've got my Swings recent dyno print out here (will post asap), and will be providing up dates as I go about making the most of what's in the engine already. Hopefully my contributions will be of some help.

To contribute towards keeping it advert free, is there some form of donation function? How many people donating how much would it take to be of service?

Jeff,  that's great news.  I can only echo what has already been said.  Like many others on the forum I am retired and my Silver Wing is my only vice and this site has been a godsend to me for all the help and information.  Thanks once again to yourself and the team

Although I am a recent member, the membership are a great, helpful bunch of people, and I am relieved that the site will be kept going. All credit to JeffR and the mods for their time, dedication and effort to make and keep the site what it is... The best SWing site on the net. Thanks to you all.

Great to have authority in place. I belong to another group but when I joined there was a great deal of desenention and arguing about----you name it ----2/3 yes  1/3 nay----40%nay 60% yea. I was elected Pres. AND implemented two rules #1 go RVin g & have fun.
#2 if you can't abide by rule #1 take your RV and hit the the ROAD.
Some left and things got immediatly better.
I think the same rules apply here. CLIMB on the -whatever you ride and have as much FUN as possible. THANKS for being the LEADER Of this forum. I have learned a lot by reading all the HOW TOO's. and where to ride.

Thank you Jeff for your diligence and hard work in maintaining this site.  I have been a member for a brief time -- almost three years now -- and I rely on everyone here to help resolve my occasional Silver Wing issues. Where I have something to offer, I will participate in kind.

It isn't easy having to maintain any site whether it be simple or complex, and your oversight and good advice is much appreciated by me!

I would hate to see this site just disappear. From the first day of my SW ownership I have used the info here to maintain and repair.

If the site is closed to new members, I am wondering what that accomplishes beyond allowing the site to die a death of attrition. As they say, "All good things must come to an end." It won't take long since many of us are senior citizens.

Sorry to see this happening and adding my voice of thanks to those who worked to make this what it is.

That is basically what I will be doing. I'm just keeping it open for the members who have been active and one day this site will be gone. That is why I have mentioned for someone else to start a site and the members can go to that site. They can also take all the info as well. But one day this site will be gone.

The Silverwing was the perfect bike for me and with them no longer being made, this site is a true gem!

I have never posted much on this site but since the day I found it, it has always been my "go to" site for any information about my SW.  Thanks to ALL you old timers who have kept us newbees informed.  I will keep coming here until it is no more.  THANK YOU JEFFR and all the rest who make this site what it is.

Well done JEFFR. Forums are not the place for moaning and arguing. This site has been my saviour since I got my first SW 3 years ago and I'm happy to hear that it will stay.

I wouldn't object to paying a fee if it became necessary but bravo to you and the team for your seemingly thankless task. For my part your work has not been in vain and I look forward to 'taking from' and 'giving to' this forum in the future.

I did do an intro a long time ago, but for those that missed it: 2005 Silverwing in gray, 10K miles, bought 2 years ago, not many miles since bought, just like to have to 'get out'.  Live in Maryland, so riding is seasonal.  

I have educated myself on this forum.  Thank you for keeping it going.

I just had an awful thought, JeffR... there's an old adage that says something along the lines of: "If you don't grow, you die"... I understand your actions but I'd sure hate to see this site dwindle away, even by simple attrition. So, best of luck; you know "I'll" always be here.

The only reason I keep the site open is for members like you have been here a long time. I expect the site to die which is why I have stated that someone should start a forum like this and everyone can go there, and they can take the info here. I'm sure the site will be around for a couple of years or so but maybe someone will just start another site. It is people like 'pja' who just made a post about me and then wanted his account deleted. He hasn't been here in years and he comes back to say that.

But you were one of the first members Dick and I really appreciate it. I only am keeping this site for people who still have the SWing and have been great members and active as well.

Jeff has told us how things are and will be, here on the forum! The direction is stated and quite clear, the forum will STAY open but mainly to give time for another SW forum to come into existence!

If you feel led to start a new Silver Wing forum let us know and we will help you with it!

hi members ,this is a good forum but for a while new member keep asking the same question ,and amaze how patient are those ho help giving there knowledge are .I thank those ho help me trouble shoot my PRECIOUS ,115 k runs great ,hope the 3 foot of ice and snow l disappears before the end of May.keep up the good work to keep this forum the way it is.

We enjoy the site and will continue to respond if we can be of assistance. Part of the problem is the SW is so reliable it does not elicite a lot of questions from forum members.

My son works for honda as an engineer and restores older racing bikes. He is amazed at what parts are still available for bikes exceeding 15 yrs old. Apparently the SW 600 will be fully supported thru 2025 and there is no termination date for support established at this time.  This means you should be able to ride for many years to come.  

There are few manufacturers that support their products as Honda does.  

Personally i havent found anything to replace my machine nor have i found anything that is more suitable for my use. Old shoes are comfortable.....

maybe this is why there is humour being interjected to keep readers from falling asleep

As far as engine reliability is concerned, boring to me is exciting. On my bicycle ride today, I encountered a Swing going the opposite direction. Wow, I hope my engine sounds that smooth. And the rider seemed anything but bored.

Just curious, can't the administration of the website be transferred to a new admin and keep this forum open?

As people dispose of their Silverwing, a new Silverwing owner has been created.  The old owner ceases to come here.

The new Silverwing owner is left out.

Yes I think it can. But so far nobody has stepped up as willing to take it over. Most of us on this forum tend to be "mature" individuals (read old). And as such, health issues start to creep up etc.

The way it was explained to me is that, yes, the administration of this forum can be transferred but that would still leave JeffR as the owner of record. And while he is very generously keeping the forum open out of respect for we current, active, contributers it is something which he no longer wants to be responsible for. Which is why he suggests that an interested individual could begin a new forum by going to the phpBB stuff at the bottom of the page and create a new forum.

I agree that it would be great to save this forum. And as much as I would be honored to take ownership, I am not computer literate, more 'an old guy with a paper map and a flip phone', and at 75 my horizon is relatively short. So short that my next ride might be a Helix.

Dunno how many folks remember "Honda Silver", but he was a forum owner for a good many years until one day he just disappeared. Never answered PMs or emails. Poof...gone. Thankfully Jeff still retained the pertinent forum info to regain control. I wouldn't want something like that to happen on my watch.

I'm open to discussion if someone would care to start a topic or PM me. But, as Glenn observed, "so far no one has stepped up willing to take over".

I understand Jeff's desire to "move on." I admire his decision to keep the forum open for existing members.

I just don't see that as a solution as long term. Without new members, the post count will continue to dwindle and eventually it will die on the vine.

New Silverwing owners should be encouraged to join and welcomed. It is the new person's excitement about their "new to them" motorcycle that breeds community interaction.

I am retired. 64 years old. I am computer literate. I once worked as a network engineer. I am fully self taught. I owned and operated a few websites in the early 2000. I don't have any experience as an administrator of a forum or even any moderator experience, but I do know that I would have the time and ability to learn "on the job."

Just putting it out there.

The last of my resume is this: I own three motorcycles. A Goldwing, a Silverwing and a Honda Helix. The Silverwing that is in my herd, is going to be my last motorcycle. The Goldwing will go away after next summer's 90 day camping trip. The Helix is already for sale. The Silverwing, with the features it has, will be the motorcycle that I plan to ride into my 70's.

I could potentially add 5 years or more to this forum.

This will be my last post regarding this subject. If anyone wishes to discuss this with me, please do so via PM's.

Well, Modernman, I support you and your offer. Hope you and Jeff (or whoever has authority) can make it happen. You also make a good point about the new members who have suddenly come upon the great features and fun of the Swing; I was recently one of those, and I also found that this forum is almost as good as the Swing, and that's saying a lot.

Well, I certainly agree with "Modernman" and "bikehiker". If the administrative transfer can be successfully completed that would be great for everyone. While I'm not one of the computer literate ones nor one of the real SWing gurus that we have around here, I'm still a willing participant and sincerely hope that this site can be continued in the same great vein that Jeffr and all the tremendous administrators have maintained. (That ain't very good English but you get my drift...)

Thanks for the offer but it isn't really possible to transfer the site to a new owner. They could get the new password and take over but my name and info is still on it. So if you want to start a new site using this platform just go to the bottom and you can start a new forum. You can then transfer the info and the members can go there. And when the name www.silverwing600.com expires you can have it.

Jeff, I also want to express my thanks for keeping this site going. I'm sure the Silverwing will outlive the site. They are addictive for people who have had them and know what they can do. My wife and I had a matching pair of 2002's that we enjoyed immensely. Then when Honda discontinued them here in the US we figured we'd tour two-up on a Harley Electra Glide, which we also enjoyed. But the Silverwing, after falling in love with it the first time, kept tugging at us. And we decided to go back to the Silverwings simply because they proved to be the best touring machines we've ever owned.

Wow. Silverwings then Harley and back to Silverwings. That is a new combo that I have not witnessed so far.
