About our Paint

I'm pretty sure the colored parts of our scooters aren't painted. Some kind of color injected plastic or something. My problem is there seems to be some sort of light film all over my plastic parts of the scooter. It's as if the Swing was sitting next to a spray booth and clear overspray got all over it. It isn't that bad but feels that way when I try and wax it. Anyone try Mothers Clay bar or something like that. I know these aren't clear coated but I hate swirl marks. Any help would be appreciated. Clay bar might be useful. Go to an inconspicuous spot on the bike and try some different products: Clay bar, rubbing compound, polishing compound. Maybe even look for one of those new headlight restorer kits.

A good area to try might be the plastic on the underside of the floor board.

I am pretty sure that you are wrong there; give them a good scratch and you will see the plastic underneath!

I believe it is white ABS plastic under the color paint.

They are most definitely painted...

Odd, they definately are clear coated this side of the pond, as previously stated the base material is ABS plastic, then :

Primer
Base coat      (Silver metallic in my case)
Colour coat   (Candy Apple Red in my case)
Clear coat

Reverse side of panels are also painted, this is to protect them from solvents (petrol in particular, which will melt unprotected ABS) although the clear coat is not applied, as no shiney finish is needed on non-visible parts

I personally repainted the entire set of furniture (plastic parts) of my silverwing this summer, they are indeed ABS, white and are painted and cleared. It seems like its a one stage shot tho, not two stages. Color and Clear in one.

Hope you will show us the end results Gustafa. I've seen a bad paint job on a Swing at one of our local Stealerships.

tooth paste works quite well - not that abrasive - time consuming.
